The eminently Czech written Opera Rusalka had given excitement and glory to the opera lovers, an opera by Anonin Dvorak.

Rusalka is a water sprite in Slavic mythology. This sentimental, symbolic tale focuses on a water nymph who takes on human nature out of love and pays the terrible consequences, an ancient motif of Nordic legend that was a great favourite among the Romantics. Despite certain Wagnerian influences, the exquisite music features ballads, songs and dances with traditional Czech melodies. Am glad to say that one of my favourite singers from the Philippine Madrigal Singers Bianca Camille Lopez will portray the role of Rusalka.

Dvorak's Rusalka will have a Filipino adaptation and will have its Philippine premiere at the CCP Little Theater on September 11 and 12, 2014. Rusalka will also be closing the 50th anniversary celebration of AHA@50 at the Abelardo Hall Auditorium on September 23 and 24, 2014.
